Detention Monitoring

Through a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, Center for Juvenile Justice Training and Research staff monitor compliance with established federal and state requirements governing secure and non-secure holding of delinquent and non-delinquent youth. This monitoring process includes County Jails, Court Holding Facilities, Secure Detention Centers, Secure Treatment Facilities, Shelter Care, County Booking Centers and Police Departments.

The monitoring process is accomplished by conducting annual site audits of all the both public and private juvenile secure facilities, reviewing documentation related to secure holding admissions and providing technical assistance to juvenile courts and facility staff who are responsible for the custody and care of juveniles within these facilities.
